He was a prolific writer of works of chamber music, often with piano, and some works for two pianos. Later in his life, Poulenc turned his attention back to the woodwinds, composing his Sonate pour flûte et piano in 1957, and Sonate pour hautbois et piano and Sonate pour clarinette et piano both in 1962 . Finally, the sections on Poulenc’s other woodwind sonatas—which on their own take up half the article—included in this article simply are not relevant to the subject of this article. It’s like shoehorning an extensive section on Shostakovich’s Violin Sonata into the article on his Second Violin Concerto simply because both scores use the same solo instrument and were written about a Poulenc mentioned his Clarinet Sonata to Pierre Bernac (what collaborative pianist doesn’t see that blue book in their dreams every now and then) a few times in correspondence. He wrote that he believed Bernac would like the clarinet and the oboe sonatas and that there was a nice equilibrium between the instruments.
